Swiss Cottage NW3 · Gym and sport rehab
Your rehab, right where you train
Our clinic is inside Swiss Cottage Leisure Centre, so your physio plan can lead straight back to the gym floor, the pool and the sports hall.

Quick answer: most gym, swimming and court injuries we see at Swiss Cottage come from load going up faster than the body can adapt, not from one bad rep. Complete rest rarely fixes them. What works is calming the pain, then rebuilding strength step by step until you can do what you came to the centre to do. Because our clinic is inside the leisure centre, we can build that plan around the equipment, pool and classes you already use.
A physio clinic inside the leisure centre
Our Swiss Cottage Leisure Centre clinic sits inside the centre on Adelaide Road, a few minutes from Swiss Cottage Jubilee line station. Inside the centre there’s a 25 metre, 8 lane pool, a two floor gym with a functional training zone, studios for yoga, Pilates and cycle classes, plus a sports hall used for badminton, squash and pickleball.
That matters more than you might think. Patients often tell us they’ve been given a sheet of exercises somewhere else and never quite worked out how to turn it into a proper session. When your physio is in the same building as your gym, we can show you exactly which machines, weights and pool sessions to use and when.

What our patients tell us
The most common thing we hear is “I didn’t do anything different”. When we look back together there’s nearly always a change: a new programme, a heavier lift, an extra class each week or getting back into the pool after a long break.
A misconception we correct a lot is that you have to stop training altogether. For most gym and sports injuries, we’d rather keep you training around the problem while we fix it. That might mean swapping barbell presses for cable work for a few weeks, or swimming with a pull buoy while a sore shoulder settles.
Our physios love it when rehab and training become the same thing. The goal isn’t just to get you out of pain, it’s to get you back to the session you enjoy, stronger than before.
How to train around an injury
- Change one thing at a time: new programme, more weight or extra classes all at once is a classic recipe for a niggle.
- Keep what doesn’t hurt: most people can keep training other body parts, or swim and cycle, while one area recovers.
- Use pain as a guide: mild discomfort that settles by the next day is usually fine during rehab. Pain that builds session to session is a sign to adjust.
- Build back up gradually: add weight, reps or distance in small steps rather than jumping straight back to your old numbers.
- Get early niggles checked: problems caught in the first couple of weeks are usually quicker to sort.

Your questions answered
Do I need to be a member of Swiss Cottage Leisure Centre to see a physio?
No. Our clinic is open to everyone, whether or not you use the leisure centre.
Should I stop going to the gym if I’m injured?
Usually not completely. Most people can keep training other areas, or swap to exercises that don’t aggravate the injury, while we treat it. Your physio will tell you what to keep, what to change and what to pause for now.
Can you help me get back to swimming after a shoulder injury?
Yes. Treatment usually combines adjusting how much and how you swim for a while with strengthening the shoulder and shoulder blade muscles, plus hands-on treatment where it helps.
Do you offer shockwave or acupuncture at Swiss Cottage?
Yes. Jason uses shockwave and acupuncture alongside exercise where they suit the patient and the condition.
