03 · Why prices vary
What affects the cost of physio?
When you compare clinics, the headline price per session is only part of the story. Here’s what really makes a difference.
- Session length. A cheaper 20-minute slot can cost you more overall if you need more of them.
- Experience and support. A physio who has a team around them and is mentored and trained regularly, tends to help get you better faster.
- Hands-on treatment. Some clinics give you an exercise sheet only. Hands-on care can speed up early pain relief.
- Facilities. Access to a gym, shockwave or other equipment can save you extra appointments elsewhere.
- Location and opening hours. Early, late and weekend appointments mean less time off work.
- How many sessions you need. This matters far more than the price of one session.
04 · Number of sessions
How many physio sessions will I need?
It depends on what’s wrong, how long you’ve had it and what you want to get back to. A recent ankle sprain might need two or three sessions. A frozen shoulder or rehab after an ACL reconstruction can need many more, spread over months.
What should never happen is “hard-sell” pressurising you into decisions you are uncertain about. At your first appointment you should leave with a diagnosis, a plan and an idea of how many sessions you’ll likely need. If you’re not getting better, a good physio will change your treatment plan or refer you on.

“My pain has completely vanished in just 2 sessions. He properly informed me about my condition and also suggested a workout plan.”
Srikanth R, Mill Hill, Google review
05 · Health insurance
Can I use my health insurance?
Yes. Our physios are recognised by Bupa, AXA Health, Vitality, Aviva and WPA. Before your first appointment, call your insurer to check your cover and get an authorisation number. Some policies have an excess or a limit on sessions, so it’s worth asking. Then we’ll invoice your insurer directly.
06 · Private or NHS?
Is private physio worth it compared with the NHS?
NHS physiotherapy does a great job under real pressure. But waits can be long, sessions are often shorter and many people get exercise advice only. Going private usually means being seen the same day or week, choosing who you see, more time with your physio and hands-on treatment when it helps.
For many people, getting the right help early means fewer sessions overall and less time off work. Read more in private or NHS physio: when should you go private?
07 · Getting value
Five ways to get the most from every pound
- Book early. Problems are usually quicker to sort out before they become long-standing.
- Do your exercises. What you do between sessions matters as much as the sessions themselves.
- Ask for a plan. You should know what’s wrong, what you’re aiming for and roughly how long it’ll take.
- Pre-pay a pack if you know you’ll need several sessions. It brings the price per session down.
- Use your insurance if you have it. Check your excess and limits first.

Your questions
Your questions answered
How much does private physio cost in London?
Most London clinics charge around £75 to £150 for a first appointment and around £45 to £120 for follow-ups. At BOOST PHYSIO a 30-minute session is from £90 pre-paid, or from £70 per session in a pre-paid pack of five.
How many physio sessions will I need?
It depends on the problem. Recent, simple injuries may need two or three sessions while complex or long-standing problems need more. On average BOOST PHYSIO patients reach their goals in around 5 sessions.
Is the first physio appointment more expensive?
At many clinics, yes, because it includes a full assessment. At BOOST PHYSIO you choose a 30 or 60-minute session and treatment usually starts at your first appointment.
Can I claim physio on health insurance?
Yes, most private medical insurance policies cover physiotherapy. BOOST PHYSIO’s physios are recognised by Bupa, AXA Health, Vitality, Aviva and WPA. Check your cover and get an authorisation number first.
Do I need a GP referral for private physio?
No. You can book a private physio directly. Some insurers ask for a GP referral before they authorise treatment, so check with them.
Is private physio worth the money?
For many people, yes. Being seen quickly, having more time with your physio and getting hands-on treatment alongside exercise can mean a faster recovery, fewer sessions and less time off work.
Are cheaper physio sessions better value?
Not always. Shorter or less experienced sessions can mean you need more of them. Look at the total cost of getting better, not just the price per session.
Do you offer packages or discounts?
Yes. Pre-paying for sessions brings the price down, with a pack of five 30-minute sessions from £70 each. See our rates page for current prices.
What is your cancellation policy?
We ask for at least 24 hours’ notice to change an appointment. Late cancellations and missed appointments are charged in full.
