How Do I Know If I Have Carpal Tunnel Syndrome?
What are the symptoms of Carpal Tunnel Syndrome? What tests can be done for carpal tunnel syndrome? What treatments are there for carpal tunnel syndrome? We ask hand surgeon Mr Elliot Sorene to explain more about Carpal Tunnel Syndrome.
Carpal Tunnel Syndrome is a common cause of pain in the hand and fingers, often causing numbness and sometimes even weakness and nerve damage.
Carpal tunnel syndrome (CTS) is a common condition that causes pain,
numbness, and tingling in the hand and arm. The condition occurs
when one of the major nerves to the hand – the median nerve – is
squeezed, irritated, inflamed or compressed as it travels through the
wrist. In many people, carpal tunnel syndrome can get worse over time,
so the earlier it’s diagnosed and treated, the better.
Physiotherapy for Carpal Tunnel Syndrome involves improving posture and exercises to relieve pressure on the wrist and glide the median nerve- which is the nerve being compressed to relieve pressure.
